Interview: How I got into copywriting

Do your professional experiences define who you are?

I hope not.

One of my most formative writing endeavours involved answering repeated questions about obscure animal genitalia *.

And another had me writing directly beneath a dormant sewage pipe 12 hours a day for a whole week.

I’d like to think there’s more to me than weird willies and the lingering scent of effluent. But I guess that’s for others to say.

Anyway. I speak about those early experiences – and how I got into copywriting in the first place – in this interview with fellow freelance copywriter Nigel Graber.

If you’re new to writing copy, or you’re thinking of taking your career in a different direction, there should be some useful bits in there for you.

*And yes, giant tortoise was on the list.
